100% Volunteers Providing Fun Soccer For Everyone!

AYSO Extra™ Soccer League is an inter-regional gaming circuit for participating AYSO Extra™ program teams.

AYSO Extra™ is a competitive soccer program designed to provide a more challenging level of play for those players who possess the appropriate interest, skills and abilities necessary to compete at a higher level. AYSO's sixth philosophy, Player Development is a primary focus of the AYSO Extra™ program.

AYSO Extra™ advantages Over Other Highly Competitive Programs:
Low Cost - Fees are kept reasonable to accommodate more players
Everyone Plays 3/4 - No one sits the bench, every team plays by the 3/4 rule. (no player will play four quarters until every player has played three quarters)
Quality Trainers - To help players to better develop technical skills, tactical abilities
Player Development - Setting a clear path to help player achieve realistic goals and realize their potential while having fun learning the game of soccer.
Positive Coaching - Certified, experienced and knowledgeable coaches who are positive, instructive and encouraging with the players.
Trained Quality Referees - Game Officials who are mindful of player safety and who referee for the love of the game and not a paycheck.

Families in the EXTRA program volunteer just as they do in the regular Core program and "give back" to the Core program in a variety of ways including refereeing games, helping at registration, and providing tactical knowledge to Core program coaches.

  • See the panel on the left for dates and times for tryouts
  • Tryout sessions are run by professional trainers
  • A Team of AYSO Evaluators including the head coach will assess players. Assuming the numbers and quality of players is sufficient the evaluators will submit a team for approval.
  • All players attending tryouts will be notified via email within 2 weeks of the last day of tryouts regarding the potential status for the team.
  • Those offered positions must accept or decline the invitation within 48 hours or risk not being placed on the team.

  • The region will determine the number of EXTRA teams based upon the number of EXTRA caliber players identified during tryouts and the availability of qualified coaches.
  •  We will not form a team if we do not think it will be competitive.
  •  We will not form a team if a qualified coach is not available.
  • Teams will be made of players in a single age bracket:
    9U & 10U team: 9 on roster, play 7v7
    11U & 12U teams: 12 on roster, play 9v9
    13U/14U team: 14 on roster, play 11v11

  •  The AYSO core philosophies and principals are the same. The Extra™ teams will continue to be a fun and safe environment, with the EXTRA™ program providing  professional training and a competitive circuit of games in Southern California for increased development of skills, knowledge and personal growth.

  • EXTRA™ is a 10-month commitment (April-early June and August-February)
  • Players selected to the EXTRA Program will commit to their teams as their priority non-school activity. It is expected that every player attends each practice and game at the agreed upon times for the entire length of the season.
  • In order to satisfy the commitment required by the EXTRA Program, players may not be enrolled and participate in other non-AYSO or Club soccer programs during the EXTRA Program season. Players not adhering to their commitment and attendance may be subject to discipline.
  • It is expected that every player attends each practice and game at the scheduled times.
  • Parents are still required to support and volunteer as needed, including volunteering as referees for matches within AYSO Region 4. Each team is required to provide at least one referee to work in our Fall program.

  • EXTRA teams will not play other Region 4 teams during the Fall season or participate in All Stars.
  • The Extras Team will have practices twice a week for an hour and a half (times/days TBD) - one training session will have a professional trainer
  • EXTRA teams usually prepare for the fall season by entering two local tournaments (at end of August and early September). Teams will generally enter more tournaments after the Fall season.
  • There will be some travel involved, but the games are generally in Ventura County and the San Fernando Valley.
  • Games are usually on weekends and there may be games on Sundays.
  • Season starts at roughly the same time as the Region’s Fall season and usually ends a week or two after the end of the regular season.
  • Many teams also participate in tournaments before and after the season.

  • Team Fees:  The fee per player is estimates to be ~$500 for the 2020-2021 season. This includes Registration, Sponsorship, League fees, Championship fees, the 2 Tournaments, Goalie Training, UK Trainers during practices, Referee and Field fees.
  •  Uniforms are an additional $125 fee.
  •  Additional fees may apply for any outside tournaments or scrimmages.
  • Teams sometimes elect to buy balls, bags or warm up suits or other items at the players’ expense.
