Schoolyard Schedule 2025 (updated Sep 9, 2025)

Saturday 5U Schoolyard NEW Field Map 2025 (rev Sep 12, 2025)

Why 5U Schoolyard Program?

Why this program?

  • Young Players need special consideration
  • They are playing a child’s game
  • Fun activities must be central to child-centered program
  • Cannot sustain prolonged activity
  • They must discover the game, not be taught the game by adults.

Why this design?

  • Provides young players and their parents with a ‘pressure free’ introduction to the beautiful and simple game of soccer
  • Players should be exposed to soccer by playing simple, fun activities and games that require little to no practice
  • Allows players to discover the game for themselves, while parents are given a soccer foundation

What Is 5U Schoolyard?

For Fall 2024
5U Schoolyard is an AYSO soccer program designed for children 5 and under (for 3 and 4 year olds - all must be at least 3 years old by August 1, 2021 for 2024). It is organized for groups of children rather than specific teams and consists of three primary components:

  • “One with One” – involvement of one child with a minimum of one parent (one parent must be present the entire session)
  • Professional Coaches – Activities are led and organized by Professional coaches from UK International with guidance from Region 4 Division Directors
  • Activity Mix – skill development/activities with parents and small-sided games

Children are placed in groups for the season, rather than a “team” (no head coaches, no practices, no team banners, etc.). Groups are assigned a session time that rotates each week. Once the fields the groups break out with one of the professional or parent coaches and then are split into “teams” for the small-sided games.

Weekly emails: Families receive a weekly email detailing that week’s skills that will be introduced. This information will also be posted on this 5U Schoolyard page on www.aysoregion4.com

5U Schoolyard Group Selection OPEN for 2024

Click here to view the group list (Google doc) where you approve or use drop drop to select your child's group for the season.
Group List ETA - Aug 2, 2024

Select Your Group: We are set up to have 3 session times on Saturdays and one on Monday afternoons. Parents select either a Saturday Group A, B, or C (start times rotate each week) OR the Monday session (limited space). This Google doc is now open for you to modify your Group choice for the season.
1) Find your child's name (alphabetical by last name)
2) Review the group they are in based on birthdate (A is older players, C youngest)
3) Decide if you want to be in a different group using the drop down to change the entry to move to Monday or align with friends
4) Initial the last column to indicate you have reviewed this
5) You will have another time to change your group before the season starts

NOTE FOR FALL 2025

Registration for our Schoolyard soccer program (covers 4U & 5U) will remain open thru Labor Day so be sure to tell your friends!
Schoolyard covers kids with born in 2021 or Jan 1- Jul 30, 2022 (kids who will be 3 years old by August 1).

THE PROGRAM
We expect us to offer families the option in August to select Saturdays or Mondays for their 10-week program (sessions are ~ 1 hr).
Saturdays - would start Aug 23 -  Parents select a group which will have 3 start times rotating throughout the season ~8:15 am, 9:15 am, 10:15 am).
Mondays (4-5 pm) - would start Aug 25
We do not play Labor Day Weekend, Sat or Mon.

GROUP ASSIGNMENT & SELECTION
We'll create a google doc at the end of July grouping kids by date of birth. All kids will initially be placed in a Saturday group. Parents will be emailed the link to the Google doc so they can indicate a different group to align with friends or move to Mondays. It is best to group to the age of the younger child as we will slightly adjust the curriculum for the ages.

WHAT WE PROVIDE & WHAT IS NEEDED
We provide a uniform which families can keep (socks, shorts, jersey) and we provide soccer balls at the training sessions. Uniform pickup will be in mid-August.
If you wish to have a ball of your own when not at training we use a Size 3 soccer ball (this same size is used for all age groups until 10U).
Athletic shoes or soccer cleats should be worn - cleats are NOT required.
The one thing you will need to purchase will be shin guards - small or XL youth-sized for your child. These are worn under the soccer socks we provide.
