What Is 5U Schoolyard?

5U Schoolyard is an AYSO soccer program designed for children 5 and under (for 3 and 4 year olds - all must be at least 3 years old as of the first session of the season, 8/24/19 for 2019). It is organized for groups of children rather than specific teams and consists of three primary components:

  • “One with One” – involvement of one child with a minimum of one parent (one parent must be present the entire session)
  • Professional Coaches – Activities are led and organized by Professional coaches from UK International with guidance from Region 4 Division Directors
  • Activity Mix – skill development/activities with parents and small-sided games

Children are placed in groups for the season, rather than a “team” (no head coaches, no practices, no team banners, etc.). Groups are assigned a session time that rotates each week. Once the fields the groups break out with one of the professional or parent coaches and then are split into “teams” for the small-sided games.

Weekly emails: Families receive a weekly email detailing that week’s skills that will be introduced. This information will also be posted on this 5U Schoolyard page on www.aysoregion4.com

Why 5U Schoolyard Program?

Why this program?

  • Young Players need special consideration
  • They are playing a child’s game
  • Fun activities must be central to child-centered program
  • Cannot sustain prolonged activity
  • They must discover the game, not be taught the game by adults.

Why this design?

  • Provides young players and their parents with a ‘pressure free’ introduction to the beautiful and simple game of soccer
  • Players should be exposed to soccer by playing simple, fun activities and games that require little to no practice
  • Allows players to discover the game for themselves, while parents are given a soccer foundation

Schoolyard 2019 Season

To bring:
Size 3 soccer ball, shin guards, water, snack and wearing uniform

All players are required to have shin guards under socks for all practices and games. Children do NOT have to wear cleats. Region 4 recommends water for all activities (with name) and adding a cell # to soccer balls. Please pick up all trash and take out with you. Please note no pets are allowed at any AYSO field.

Added 8/13/2017:  Please make sure that your Participant/Player's first and last name, gender, and date of birth are correct on the Add New Participant web page before you click the Continue button.  Once you click that button, you cannot make any correction ... nor can we at the Region level.  We have to contact our National office to make corrections, a process that takes 24-48 hours.

How to Register For Fall 2019 5U Schoolyard Soccer

Whether you are brand new to AYSO or have been participating for years (as a parent or as a volunteer ... or both) EVERYONE must Create a New Account the first time you use this new system.

Please read all instructions below to learn how to register your son or daughter as a Player, and how to register yourself as a Volunteer.  Please note that the actual screens you see may differ somewhat from the screen shots below.

DO NOT LEAVE THE PLAYER REGISTRATION PROCESS FOR EACH PLAYER UNTIL YOU HAVE GOTTEN TO AT LEAST STEP 8b BELOW (e-signature)FOR EVERY PLAYER YOU WISH TO REGISTER. Please read all instructions before actually going thru the process and remember you will also need to attend a walk-in registration event.

1. Make sure you are on the Region website: (www.aysoregion4.com)

2. Assuming that you are on Region 4's Blue Sombrero powered website and have not yet created a Blue Sombrero User Account,
