American Youth Soccer Organization Providing world class youth soccer programs that enrich children's lives.

100% Volunteers Providing Fun Soccer For Everyone!

Thank you for interest in becoming a volunteer with AYSO Region 4!

Click here for information about the various roles and ways you can help AYSO provide great soccer for the kids in our community. We provide training and advice for all the positions and you certainly don’t need to have a detailed knowledge of soccer or sports to get started. All you need is a willingness to help make a difference – knowing whatever your role, you’re going to impact the lives of kids and improve the quality of life in our communities.

Important role - the Referee. If your child is playing in the 10U, 12U or 14U divisions it is important to be aware that their team cannot qualify for post-season play without accumulating referee points so every team should have 1-2 trained referee volunteers set before games start. Referees are as important as the coaches. We do not pay referees to work the games and solely rely on volunteers. We provide training online and in-person in August. Being a referee is a great way to be closer to the kids and action, learn the game, and make new friends.

If you already know you’d like to coach or be a team manager (6U and older divisions), referee (10U and older divisions) or help with the Region 4 board please continue below to complete the required steps for registering as a volunteer as there are changes effective for 2022.

(All coaches, referees, team managers, board members)

We all want the kids and volunteers to be safe and participate in a safe environment.
The following steps are required to get you started to become a volunteer with us!

1) Volunteer Application [Annual requirement]
Every volunteer (coach, referee, board member, team manager, etc.) must submit a Volunteer Application each year through our Sports Connect portal.  Click on the "Register Now" button above.

2) Background Risk Status Check – Sterling Volunteers [Annual requirement - see NOTE below about "renewal"]
When you complete the Volunteer Application in step 1 and you did not volunteer last season you will automatically receive an email from [email protected] asking

for you to approve initiation of a background check (see note below if a returning volunteer). Please click the link the email ASAP after receiving it. Follow the link above to the National website with details on the Sterling Volunteers steps. Keep in mind when you log-in, enter the same email address, Date of Birth and Zip Code used during your volunteer registration then, click Continue.

Due to County, State and Federal reporting, Background Check Processing can take up to 10 business days.  Self-disclosures can add an additional 5 business days. The background check application is delivered to AYSO National Headquarters and to Sterling Volunteers, the company that conducts the background check. Sterling Volunteers provides all volunteers with for an annual background check which screens for volunteers’ suitability to work with players.  Once the results of the background check are received by AYSO National and by Region 4, the volunteer will be evaluated for the volunteer positions they selected.

NOTE: If you are a returning volunteer from last season, you will receive a notification from Sterling Volunteers 30 days before your background check is due to renew from last season.  You MUST renew when you receive the email notification in order to remain eligible to volunteer throughout the 2022-2023 AYSO program.

3) Live Scan Fingerprinting (New - Effective January 2022) [One time, not annual]

Live Scan fingerprinting is mandated by the State of California under AB 506 for all people working with and around kids. Live Scan is an ink-less electronic fingerprinting that scans your fingerprints directly into the computer to determine who a person is so that a background check can be done. Please note that the Live Scan fingerprinting must be done specifically for AYSO, it cannot be transferred from fingerprinting done for or by other organizations.

There is a cost for the Live Scan and AYSO is arranging to provide opportunities where volunteers will not need to pay out of pocket. We will be hosting onsite events where multiple volunteers can schedule an appointment to go through the Live Scan process (about 5 mins). We also are looking to partner with local businesses offering Live Scan to bill the region directly.

AYSO Region 4 will provide more information on the process to take to get a Live Scan completed (one opportunity will be Saturday, May 28 in Newbury Park at AYSO Area 10E’s Patriots Cup soccer tournament. This is new requirement and we're trying to avoid volunteers paying out of pocket then getting reimbursed so we will have more news to come.  Note - You can complete the additional online course requirements below prior to completing your Live Scan fingerprinting.

In addition to the annual olunteer registration and background checks there are certain training requirements that must be completed by all volunteers before work with teams or assuming roles.
